Buffalo
Art, in its many forms, has always been Buffalo’s focus in life: commercial illustrator, musician, hairdresser and silversmith. He prefers to use the old techniques of the early Navajo smiths, working almost exclusively in ingot. Hand forging from scratch is what he calls his “labor of love.”
An ingot is a piece of relatively pure material, usually metal, that is cast into a shape suitable for further processing. In steelmaking, it is the first step among semi-finished casting products. Ingots usually require a second procedure of shaping, such as cold/hot working, cutting, or milling to produce a useful final product.
He finds that visions come to him, and “pour out of him” constantly day and night. He earned his nickname as a tall wild-haired young man in need of a haircut.
He has since settled down in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he is happily making jewelry full-time.
