R465 Red Mesa Rug
Vintage Red Mesa rug. The 48” x 72” rug has a serrated diamond pattern. Ca 1910.
The Red Mesa weaving area is located close to the Four Corners on the Navajo Reservation. These rugs demonstrate some of the best artistry of Navajo weavings. The introduction of Germantown yarns in the 19th century gave the Red Mesa rug an explosion of "eye-dazzling" color. The rug designs usually consist of chevrons and/or serrated diamonds, outlined with a contrasting color. Red Mesa rugs were influenced from the Crystal and Teec Nos Pos weaving areas.
