Chinle vintage woman’s wearing blanket with Analine Red and Indigo Blue dye. The blanket is 52” x 72”. ca 1930's This rug does have multiple areas with damage The weaving is being sold-as is and has been priced accordingly.
Banded Chinle Blankets are woven with 100% wool on a traditional Navajo single upright loom with hand spun and dyed yarn.
Traditional, Native-made wearing blankets that were wider than long (when the warp was held vertically) and were known as mantas (wearing blankets.) Wearing blankets were usually wrapped around the shoulders with one long edge turned over as a “collar.”
