Large sandpainting rug with Yei figures, the four sacred plants (beans, corn, tobacco and squash) and surrounded by the Rainbow God. This 56” x 62” rug was woven in the 1970’s.
Today only a few Navajo weavers are willing to weave a sandpainting rug because these symbolic images are a part of their ceremonial heritage. Sandpainting rugs are some of the most rare of the Navajo weavings and have become sought after by collectors and museums.
