Chinle rug by Navajo weaver Nora Cowboy from Crownpoint, New Mexico. The 21" x 36" wool rug is hand carded and hand woven. This is a good example of an early Chinle rug with three bands containing stacked chevrons in a gold, gray and white pattern.
Chinle rugs are the most simple of the three styles of banded rugs without borders. Stripes of plain color alternate with bands containing geometric patterns. Most Chinle rugs contain a lot of gold, white, gray and green.
