Kevin Yazzie
Kevin Yazzie began making jewelry in 2014.
Kevin worked at several different jobs while in school at New Mexico University. One day Aaron Anderson was in the store Kevin was working and told him to stop by his shop and see if he liked jewelry making He started hanging out at his studio.
Kevin watched everything to see how he did it. Before going to Aaron’s shop he didn’t know anything about jewelry making. He gave Kevin some tufa stone and told him to start carving.
His first piece was terrible. It was supposed to be a small pendant and it weighed over three ounces. His depths were really messed up and he had no idea what he was doing.
He was embarrassed to take any more of Aaron’s tufa stone so he went to Thunderbird and bought his own. Kevin started to work on a bracelet which came out really nice and I sold it online for $230.
“Creating jewelry is really rewarding and I want to keep doing this.”
