Child from the Water carving by Navajo artist Milton Jordan. This 11” original wood carving is on a 1 ½” base.
This is not a Kachina, but a Navajo carving.
Since the time of creation, monsters roamed the land and killed many Navajo people. Spider Woman loved the Navajos so she gave power to Monster- Slayer and Child-Born-of-Water (the Navajo hero twins) to hunt for the Sun-God, their father. When they found him, Sun-God showed them how to destroy all the monsters on land and water.
Milton Jordan, full Navajo, is from Lukachukai on the Navajo Reservation. He has a degree in Art Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. His work is represented in many collections throughout the United States.
