About the artist
Tamara Pinto
Tamara Pinto is an artist from Zuni Pueblo who specializes in channel inlay. Tamara learned the art from her mother Andrea Lonjose who learned the technique from Shirley Benn.
The raised, carved and engraved stones bring the butterfly to life. The beautiful, lifelike colorful butterflies that she hands cuts all the stone & shell for become pieces of art to wear.
Instead of doing traditional Zuni cluster work, Tamara takes on another art form known to the Zuni people, channel inlay. The mosaic inlaying her pieces have a delicate & very feminine feel, along with her amazing workmanship. Tamara was honored with a ribbon award at this years "Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial" event, taking home the prize in the "Lapidary" category.
