Sterling silver pendant by Zuni silversmith Ruth Lonjose. The 3/4” blooming Sunface is bordered by 22 Sleeping Beauty channel inlay turquoise - 1 3/8” x 1 3/8”. A dangle of 8 turquoise and six silver dangle makes a total length of 3 1/2”.
The Sleeping Beauty Mine was one of the largest American turquoise mines. The stones produced are some of the only varieties in the United States known for having little or no matrix and a bright sky blue color.
Zuni artist Ruth Lonjose is known for her inlaid Sunface work. There are not many artists still doing this type of work, particularly with Ruth’s skill. Ruth makes many variations of the Sunface in different sizes.
