Sarah Garcia
Acoma Pueblo
Sarah Garcia was one of the most influential potters at Acoma and is considered one the great revivalist for pottery at Acoma Pueblo along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Chino. Sarah’s large jars are especially prized.
Both her grandmother and mother were from Laguna Pueblo so one would expect her to be accepted as a Laguna potter; however she is known as being from Acoma which is where she lived and potted. She probably was one of the most prolific potters at the pueblo. She, along with Jessie Garcia, Lucy Lewis, and Marie Z. Chino, were largely responsible for the revival of Anasazi and Tularosa designs on contemporary Acoma wares.
