Sterling silver ring by noted silversmith . The 5/8” x 1 1/8” Carico Lake cabochon is in a 1” x 1 3/4” detailed sterling setting with a 1/4” band. Size 7.5

Navajo silversmith Terry Martinez has been an active silversmith since 1976. He learned the art of making jewelry from his father, Leo Martinez, and master silversmith Harry Morgan. Everything is created by hand: hand cut bezels and the silver pounded out with a hammer. He is known for using only the highest quality of stones.

Carico Lake is a turquoise that comes from a large active mine in Nevada. In the last twenty years it has been mined sporadically so it is a relatively scarce turquoise. The green and blue-green spider web turquoise has a unique matrix and is one of the finest turquoise in North America. The colors and scarcity of Carico Lake turquoise make it a valuable addition to any collection.

About the artist

Terry Martinez

Terry Martinez, award-winning Navajo artist from New Mexico, has been an active silversmith for well over 30 years.  Terry carries on the famed Martinez clan's devotion to the creation of traditional design jewelry in the style of previous generations. Using only the finest turquoise, Terry adapts the ingot style, rolled and hand pounded techniques to create some of the most striking jewelry in Indian Country. Everything is made by hand. Terry uses hand cut bezels and only high quality natural stones.

A regular supplier to the famed Hubbell Trading Post National Monument, his work is featured prominently in the finest galleries throughout the country.   Terry regularly places first in the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial.
