About the artist
Darryl Becenti
Darryl Becenti was born in Gallup, NM in 1957. He was trained by his brothers-in-law, David and Leroy Reeves. Darryl also does sand painting as well as pencil and ink art.
Master Navajo Silversmith Darryl Becenti is the brother-in-law to the famous Sunshine Reeves, Gary Reeves, David Reeves/ Andy Cadman, Darrell Cadman Clan. Darryl is geographically separated from most of our other artists and therefore, his work is harder to come by. A former sand painter, Darryl began making jewelry in 1988. His jewelry, just like that of his family, is highly prized for its deep hand-stamped Navajo designs, repoussé silver work, and thick gauges of silver.
Darryl has been creating custom lines of jewelry for the Hollywood "who’s who", and some big Country Western Artists. Darryl Becenti's work is exceptional in all aspects.
Darryl produces finely crafted pieces in sterling silver and premier stones, Darryl has made his own stamps and dyes, and heavily employed magnificent stars, fans, scallops, shells, and elaborate appliques onto the surface of his bracelet cuffs. When he is not smithing silver, Darryl is often busy drawing very detailed wildlife scenes using pencil, pen and ink. When setting turquoise in his jewelry, he always uses fine, natural stones.
