F465 Serpentine Frog
Serpentine frog fetish by Zuni fetish carver Herbert Him. The 2’ x 7/8” x 1 1/4” frog has turquoise eyes.
The frog is considered a rain-bringing fetish. It is also associated with fertility.
Herbert Him from the Zuni Pueblo is a master-carver of fetishes and sculpture. A sculpture of his may have a Pueblo village carved on the back, or a buffalo might appear to be waving his shaggy head as he looks at you. Herbert successfully blends the traditional and the contemporary into his own inimitable style. His detailed bear, frog, and turtle fetishes have given him a reputable name as an important Zuni carver.
