CHARLOTTE DISHTA
(Zuni)
Charlotte Dishta has been making jewelry since the 1980s and is known for her mosaic rug pattern inlays. She uses the traditional four color materials of Acoma Jet, Turquoise, Mother of Pearl and Coral. Charlotte sometimes collaborates with Pat Leekity.
The rug pattern is the signature pattern for Charlotte. It is a Native American jewelry design used in inlay work and known as the “rug pattern”. It is similar to designs on a handwoven Native American rug often used for sash belts, a warm blanket, or wall decorations. Each symbol signifies a different meaning – such as the points resembling a mountain top. She makes popular Zuni Bolo ties and buckles using beautiful stone, shell and minerals that result in inlaid jewelry that is extremely striking.
