Description

Old Dogon Rhinoceros mask (Gomintogo) from Mali. This is a traditional mask with an abstract face and two large horns depicting the rhinoceros. Masks of animals are used in the funeral ceremonies by the Dogon people of Mali. Masked dancers celebrate the life of the deceased. This 6” x 24” mask represents Gomintogo (the rhinoceros) and the dancer scrapes the dirt in an imitation of the animal.
