Description

The Hemba ancestor figure from Zaire usually has short legs, elongated torso, hands resting on navel or protruding abdomen, and an elongated head with the hair swept back. The incising on his head represents scarification patterns used to enhance the appearance of both male and female. This is a fertility symbol and is kept in the house of the Clan Chief.
