Frank Cheatle was born in Arizona. Cheatle was an accomplished landscape painter by 1957. He has painted mostly in the deserts of Arizona and California. He derives his inspiration from the early California plein-air painters. He currently has a studio in Flagstaff.

Describing his paintings, Frank Cheatle said, “The spirit of nature is the force behind my desire to paint. I try to paint a realistic impression of the landscape with mood. I have been inspired by the paintings of the California School of Artists who painted in plein air." An Arizona native, Cheatle has won numerous awards including several from The Phippen Museum Western Art Show in Prescott, AZ.
