Beautiful Rio Grande rug from the 1930’s. The center pattern is a thunderbird with rain, clouds, and lightening designs. The 100% wool 40” x 80” rug also has a whirling logs pattern top and bottom.
Today "Rio Grande" encompasses the entire weaving tradition of Hispanic New Mexico. The Rio Grande rug is distinguished by its two stripes and large centerpiece. This style rug was modeled after the Rio Grande blankets originally made in the in the early years of the twentieth century.
